Guy Basnett, Editor

Investigative journalist Guy Basnett has been behind some of the biggest stories in national and regional news.

He’s led large scale investigations into corruption at the European Parliament, and revealed a Cabinet Minster ‘flipping’ his homes long before the Telegraph’s MPs expenses scandal. With a proven track record of data journalism and Freedom of Information investigations, his work also led to a change in the law on Sex Offenders, and a freeze and review of pay at the BBC.

He was shortlisted for Reporter of the Year at the British Press Awards 2009, and Young Journalist of the Year at the British Press Awards 2010. He was awarded Young Reporter of the Year at the Press Gazette Regional Press Awards 2006.

From joining News of the World as an investigative reporter at the end of 2006, he quickly climbed the ranks to become Deputy Features Editor at the paper with the highest circulation in the English speaking world.

He was previously Chief Reporter of The Journal, Newcastle.

Guy has carried out assignments in Afghanistan and Iraq. Visit his website here:
